Mast Gate Insert for Windrider 17
Many Windrider 17 trimarans have been converted from Rope Luff to attach the sail to the mast to using Sail Slugs. This is a great modification for ease of sail handling, but leaving the long Feed Slot open can make raising and lowering the sail a frustrating operation, since the slugs tend to exit the track as they pass the opening.
This Mast Gate Insert provides an easy snap-in cover that allows the slugs to slide past the feed slot, and stay in the track when raising or lowering the sail.
The CoolBeans Mast Gate Insert is 3D printed using industrial grade Nylon (PPA) with Carbon Fiber additives. This provides a durable, long-lasting item, with resiliency to snap in and out of place without breaking. Nylon performs exceptionally well outdoors, and is UV resistant. Nylon-CF parts are naturally rough-textured, and matte finished.
There may be visible artifacts from the 3D printing, which are expected and do not detract from usage. This Mast Gate is designed to bridge the gap only while raising and lowering the sail -- it is not intended to hold the stress of a mast car under loaded conditions. Under normal conditions this is not an issue, but care should be taken when reefing to ensure that none of the cars, nor the boom's gooseneck are in the Feed Slot area when sailing.
This Mast Gate Insert is compatible with Windrider 17 Masts set up as shown in the photographs with a 10" long Feed Slot and a silver feeder bracket at the top. The bracket will need to be removed to use the Mast Gate, as seen in the video.
